004 Hit Your Sustainable Peak Performance – Coaching Margaret W.

finding your new paradigm for success

Do you want to get to that next level? To tap into ALL of who you can be? Your peak performance. But holding back because you are afraid you don’t have what it takes, that you can’t sustain the high level of performance needed, especially when you have many balls to juggle across your life. I coach Margaret Weniger, speaker & podcast host of Rising Tide, on finding a NEW way to leverage your strengths and bring out your best WHILE creating the balance needed for your sustainability.

MY GUEST: Margaret Weniger  (host of Rising Tide Podcast, Linked In)

THE SCOOP:

Have you ever really wanted to get to that next level? To tap into ALL of who you can be? Your peak performance. But holding back because you are afraid you don’t have what it takes, that you can’t sustain the high level of performance needed, especially when you have many balls to juggle across your life. I’m not just talking career – it could be the next level relationship, financial success, dedicating yourself to your craft or passion, the top level in your sport, a graduate degree. As the saying goes, sometimes what got you here to your current level isn’t what is needed for the next. It’s about finding a NEW way to leverage your strengths and bring out your best WHILE creating the balance needed for your sustainability.

This is what I get to coach on with Margaret. Margaret is one of those ‘she does it all’ superwomen. An incredibly passionate, ambitious, driven sales executive, speaker & podcaster, mother of 3 and mentor to many people. She just left her conventional corporate track to lean into building her dream of empowering women in business – all centered around her amazing podcast, Rising Tide. Not surprisingly, Margaret is hitting a wall – wanting to create something of significance and impact in the world but unsure if she really CAN ‘do it all.’ Our coaching centers on figuring out a new way – a new paradigm for success that is sustainable.

I want to help YOU get to your next level. In a way that fits into YOUR life – not somebody else’s life. Where do you want to level up? Where do you KNOW you need to grow, expand, move into what you are truly capable of but are afraid you can’t pull it off? Think about where you want some peak performance. Choose a specific area to ponder as you listen to the episode. Is there a dream that you want to go for if you could just figure out how best to tap into your full potential?

UP CLOSE & PERSONAL WITH AMY K:

Like Margaret, my drive for excellence works for and against me. I have a high bar for myself and an unrelenting inner voice. For the past year, I’ve been pushing into my next level – building and launching this podcast, taking on a flood of new coaching clients, working many more hours than normal. I find myself falling into my old ‘corporate life’ default patterns of what working hard looks like. So, now I have to walk my talk. I get to STOP, breathe and consciously choose HOW I want to live this next level of success – what my new paradigm can look and feel like. I know that part of ‘changing my stroke’ is listening to and trusting my intuition as much as possible, expanding the timeline, being patient when I’m learning new things and remembering that I’m the one setting the expectations – no one else. I’m not there yet – this is definitely a work in progress. I will keep you posted!

MY CHALLENGE FOR YOU:

Get ready to find a NEW way to leverage your strengths and bring out your best WHILE creating the balance needed for your sustainability. I hope this challenge helps! I would love to coach you on your next level, contact me for your own growth moment.

  1. Where do you want to level up but have hit a plateau and/or it’s too painful doing things your current way? Do you have a dream you want to go for in your career, learning, relationship, health or wealth? Go ahead & make a few notes that capture your next level goal.
  2. Now think about how you are doing things currently – your approach, pace, mindset, mode of action, etc. What’s NOT working in this current way – what has to go? What ways of doing & being no longer fit and are unsustainable?
  3. What might your new paradigm of peak performance look like? What are the elements or characteristics of your ‘new stroke’? This is where you get to really listen to and trust yourself – what will create your peak performance in a deeply sustainable and fulfilling way.
  4. Now, capture the key elements of your new paradigm. Enough detail that you can try it out, practice a new way of being and doing. It might include your expectations, boundaries, perspective, pace, the way you structure your day, what you will do & what you are letting go of.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

These are the key takeaways & insights from Margaret’s coaching!

Margaret’s Challenge: “How to channel my formidable drive and ambition to a more mature version of myself. Getting sustainable peak performance.”

Limiting Beliefs: Margaret was getting caught in up believing that there is just one way to peak performance – that it had to be like her old competitive swimming days – it had to be all consuming. “I can’t afford to stop or relax, I will get passed by.”

Perspective Shift: Margaret found her own shift almost immediately when she said, “I need to view all of this as learning, not failure – to know when I’m falling down, it’s just accelerated growth.” Very cool!

Powerful Question #1: “What are you here to do on the planet?” This is ALWAYS a good one. It tends to cut through the crap – gets you right into your purpose.

Analogy/Metaphor: When I brought Margaret back to her competitive swimming days – this is what opened up the coaching. SHE found the analogy that finding a new way for her peak performance that isn’t all consuming & is sustainable for the long haul of life, is like ‘changing your stroke.’ The human brain loves a good analogy or metaphor – it opens up the door for transformation. But, it has to be one that clicks for YOU. This one happened to be Margaret’s.

Insights & Epiphanies: Margaret had a ton of great insights. I loved her idea of the “infinite versus finite strategy” that started to shift her into thinking sustainable instead of all consuming. Another great realization was “healthy boundaries are hard for someone like me because I have such a bias for action” – this helped Margaret know she has to work on this area. “I DO need a new paradigm/wiring in order to not default into old patterns” – it’s so key for each of us to have our own deep knowing of when things have to change – it can’t come from other people’s well meaning advice – it’s an inside/out job.

The Commitments: Margaret outlined these elements for her new stroke – “patience, not going it alone – lots of collaboration, being in tune with my energy & capacity, being kind to myself, and I absolutely don’t get to diminish what I’m setting out to do.” She promised to put these up on her wall where she can see them and to embody the new stroke by being her ‘own best boss’. Margaret also committed to reach out and collaborate immediately and to look into creating a Board of Advisers for her new venture.
